Daily Debate

The short version

Daily Debate does not sell personal information or use behavioral advertising. We collect only what is needed to count votes, provide optional accounts, send opt-in reminders, prevent abuse, and understand whether the core product works.

Votes and accounts

Votes are stored with an account identifier or a random guest identifier. A salted one-way network hash helps limit abuse; the raw address is not stored. Guest identifiers and signed vote receipts are saved on your device so a vote can be retried or attached to an account without counting twice. If you create an account, we store your email address, display name, securely derived PIN credential or social sign-in identifier, vote history, and streak statistics.

Reminders

Native and browser reminders are optional. When enabled, we store the device's push token or browser push subscription, platform, last-seen time, and whether that device has voted today. Reminders can be turned off inside Daily Debate or from your device or browser settings.

Product analytics

We record aggregate events such as a question loading, a completed vote, a share-sheet handoff, a copied link, a shared-link open or vote, a friend challenge being created or completed, a successful sign-up, or optional question-quality feedback. These events contain a bounded page or platform label and, when relevant, the question ID. They do not include your selected answer, advertising identifiers, raw network addresses, full URLs, or user-agent strings.

Marketing links may contribute a platform, distribution type, current-month or evergreen campaign label, and creative variant A–D. Arbitrary names are reduced to “other.” This attribution is kept in browser session storage for up to 30 minutes and counted in aggregate, not tied to an account. Campaign aggregates are retained for 90 days. App-created friend links remain separate from marketing campaigns.

Sharing a result

The challenge message and link do not contain your selected answer, a result percentage, or the number of participants. The link contains the debate's question ID, an aggregate sharing-source label, and a random single-use challenge ID. Your selected answer is stored with that random ID so the recipient can lock in a response before learning whether you matched or split. We do not store the recipient's answer; a one-way retry-token hash only lets the same browser recover a lost result response. Hourly maintenance deletes unanswered challenges after 30 days and answered challenges after seven days. Shared previews do not reveal either answer or the room's result.

Your choices

You can use the daily vote without an account. You can disable reminders at any time and permanently delete an account and its linked history from the account screen. See the account deletion instructions.
